A message from our Sherington Poet Laureate

A poem by our Poet Laureate, Juliette Willenberg.

Winter brings dark mornings

with bleak skies. Frost-covered

cars and visible breath. A

desire to stay in bed.

Winter brings premature afternoons

with evening beckoning. Forbidden

sunlight and activities indoors. Canadian

geese flying overhead.

Winter brings cosy evenings

with sighs of relief. Dancing

firelight and warming stews. Safety

under the thick duvet.

Let’s embrace winter because

it leads spring with love;

prepares the earth for new life;

fills me with hope.
