From Amanda Burnell’s letter dated Tuesday 15th May 2022 (click here for the full letter):

Yesterday, Grayson Purser came to see me as school council representative for 6C. Having welcomed two Ukrainian children into the class over the last few days, Grayson was keen that the Sherington community demonstrate our friendship and compassion for our new arrivals, their families and the people of Ukraine.

Grayson has made two suggestions:

  • That on Monday, 23rd May, the school dresses in yellow and sky blue
  • That we each donate to a charity to support the work that is ongoing in Ukraine UNICEF is working around the clock in Ukraine and at the borders of neighbouring countries, providing access to clean water, health care services and other critical support.

Their work is to support children and families. You can read more about UNICEF and their work here:

https://www.unicef.org.uk/donate/donate-now-to-protect-children-in-ukraine/

Donations can be made using this link or by telephoning 0300 330 5699

Any amount donated to UNICEF will help support their ongoing work.

Clothes can be non-uniform or uniform; it’s the colours that are important. I’ve spoken to children about this today and there has been an outpouring of creativity and humanity amongst them. We look forward to a sea of yellow and bright blue – our small way of showing love and compassion to all of our Ukrainian families. Many thanks in advance for your kindness and generosity.

Kind regards,
Amanda Burnell
